An afternoon crocus

A crocus was in flower this afternoon. It's one of the several crocuses by the front walk that come back every winter (I almost wrote spring!) These predate our gardening efforts and are an echo from someone long ago who thought to plant them there.

  1. That's a nice color. We've got crocus from homeowners gone by. It's a delight to have them pop up around the garden, but I definitely have added my own.

  2. Very nice. A breath of spring through the snow.

  3. Crocus inspire me. They pop up in early spring and spread their beauty even in adverse conditions. How wondrous!

  4. Crocus would once have been attacked by house sparrows over here. Not any more. The house sparrow population has collapsed in many areas and we haven't seen one in several years. at least the crocus are now safe.

  5. Hello! I'm a fellow blogger ( I found your site while searching for a photo of a crocus in the snow and I was wondering if I could have your permission to use this photo on my blog. (Of course I will give you credit and link to your site.) My dad just passed away and I wanted to write a post about my mom's resilience to begin a new life at age 93. She loves flowers and purple is her favorite color, so I knew I had to find a crocus! She will be moving from NC all the way to California to be near me, and she exemplifies resilience in the way she's handling all these changes. The post I want to write is not related to my topic (teaching art to kids) and I never do that, but I wanted to explain why my posting has been sporadic, and also to honor my mom. Please let me know if it would be okay with you to use your picture. My email is cbtrowbridge[at]gmail[dot]com. Thank you for your consideration! (And I love your blog... I'm so glad I found it. Your garden looks amazing!!)

I enjoy hearing from fellow nature lovers and gardeners. Let me know your thoughts.
