Spring peepers

Leaving work late this afternoon, I heard spring peepers calling. Loudly. The small Cherokee Worldview Garden bog is filled with water now, and has clearly been repopulated.

It's a lovely sound. Now if I could just figure out how to upload audio files.... hhmrph.

But my favorite nature sound audiographer, Lang Elliot, doesn't seem to connect with the latest Real Player version on his site.

But just google spring peeper call, and you'll hear what I heard!

This is an image from Wikipedia, from a USGS site.

  1. I can hear them right now as I am typing this post...a few weeks ago the sound of them made me know spring was here!

  2. Lisa, I haven't tried to record just the sound, but I was able to record and embed the morning song of the birds by recording on my Flip video. The video isn't much as I was pointing at the sky, but the sound is really good.

  3. Lisa,

Same as Gardengoddess I can here the peepers with the windows and doors closed. We have a pond just outside in the yard. We have moved to a level 9 on a scale of 10 tonight of loud peeper calling.

  4. When I was a kid, there was a pond next to the house. It was all you could hear at night. I miss that sound. I'm hoping to encourage toads in my own yard this year with the bog plantings in the gully. It won't be long before the other sounds come into play at night, mostly crickets.
