Dogs and gardening

We've loved (and fussed at) our gardening assistant.  He was pesky (he liked to eat young kale and collard leaves), but he was good about not stepping into my raised vegetable beds (mostly).

He loved to supervise the squirrels.  Ha!

But he kept us company as we did all sorts of fun (to us) things in the garden - planting, transplanting, weeding, mulching, etc.

But we had to let him go yesterday after a short, but difficult illness.

He was a great dog.

  1. Oh Lisa, I am so sorry. I just got off the phone with my sister in Kansas, she had to let one of her dogs go yesterday as well. It is the hardest thing about being a pet owner is letting them go. I know there will be an ache in your heart for a long time. They are our best companions.

  2. Oh, no... I'm so sorry. What a sweet, handsome, kale-chompin' fella he was.

  3. I am so very, very sorry for your loss. We don't have dogs, but we do garden with 4 cats, and recently we nearly lost one of them in an accident. Fortunately, our vet is also a "cat" man and he did what we felt sure was impossible - he saved our boy. The absolute intensity of the emotions we've felt has been soul shaking. So I sympathize - oh my gosh, I sympathize. Best wishes to you both.
