Maybe a really last hummingbird

My gardening companion saw a ruby-throated hummingbird on one of our feeders this evening. Perhaps she was the last of the season. We'll see.

    Autumn migration south has begun for birds that breed in Britain. I have yet to hear my first fieldfare clucking in the sky to announce its arrival from Scandinavia.
