I've purchased red onion seedlings from a local high school spring plant sale last year, and had great luck with them, although not knowing the variety. Leeks would make an interesting future experiment.Swimrayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02928919593044289369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4859873319068539701.post-4861070986947522512009-03-09T21:22:00.000-04:002009-03-09T21:22:00.000-04:00I thought the same thing about the tomato plants I...I thought the same thing about the tomato plants I saw at Home Depot this weekend. That's just cruel to do to uninformed gardeners!Gingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11904073032627748614noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4859873319068539701.post-54075265169258313972009-03-09T14:54:00.000-04:002009-03-09T14:54:00.000-04:00Leeks: I've grown them from seed for two years now...Leeks: I've grown them from seed for two years now. The first time, I must have gotten them started a bit earlier because I do recall that most were "pencil" size when I put them out in October. Of course, they didn't grow much until the weather warmed back up a bit and then they did fine. This fall's were about as you describe the ones in the pot you just purchased. Only now are they beginning to show shines of any real growth (gee, at 85 degrees today, what won't!). I'm curious to see if they catch up quickly and mature before it's too hot (like today). If so, probably no need for the fall planting here.CENhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06048211362201115798noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4859873319068539701.post-11401214639635038912009-03-09T09:37:00.000-04:002009-03-09T09:37:00.000-04:00I transplanted leeks in my Mississippi garden in O...I transplanted leeks in my Mississippi garden in October, but they haven't grown much over the winter. I'm hoping they take off soon.

I ordered mine online. Definitely a surprise for a big box store to carry leeks.Lisa Blairhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06288352630209939371noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4859873319068539701.post-47091945301663589342009-03-08T22:21:00.000-04:002009-03-08T22:21:00.000-04:00I am loving reading about your plant musings.
