Tiarella cordifolia

Foamflower (Tiarella cordifolia) is a wonderful spring ephemeral in our native woodlands.  But it's also an excellent addition to woodland shade gardens, too, and happily is fairly available 'in the trade.'

  1. It's a lovely plant and great for attracting butterflies and hummers. gail

  2. It's one of my favorites, too. The flowers make me think of sparkling fairy wands. In my garden a tiarella is blooming on an oak-shaded slop beneath iris cristata.

  3. Isn't Tiarella fabulous?

I appreciate our native woodland wildflowers that are tough enough for 'normal' woodland conditions in a garden setting (that is, not perfect soil with uneven moisture throughout the summer).

Foamflower (and its relative Heuchera) are in that category.

  4. I keep meaning to add some of these to my garden...they are so very lovely en masse.
